~Inspira~ Reflexology Academy South Wales

~Inspira~ is a Reflexology and Reiki Academy based in Dinas Powys in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales, in between Cardiff and Barry. The ~Inspira~ Academy was established in 2003 and is fully accredited by the Association of Reflexologists (AoR), the largest independent organisation for Reflexology in the United Kingdom. ~Inspira~ provides Reflexology training courses of the highest standard leading to an internationally recognised qualification. The Academy is set in a quiet rural location with spectacular views over open fields towards Penarth. ~Inspira~ House has a dedicated school room that is fully equipped with relaxators, lafumas, multi-media equipment and library. There is also ample parking on the premises.

The economy in the UK is struggling at the moment, so re-training for a growth industry - Complementary Therapies - makes sense...it is a real investment for the future. The government does provide discretionary funding for those looking for a new vocation and ReAct (Wales) is one such source. They can be contacted at: ReAct, Welsh Assembly Government, Ty'r Llyn, Waterside Business Park, Clos Llyn Cwm, Swansea Enterprise Park, Swansea, SA6 8AH

The ~Inspira~ Reflexology course is aimed at students who wish to become qualified therapists in a professional and business like environment, as well as those who may wish to acquire further skills for their own personal development. At ~Inspira~ we ensure that our students are provided with all the tuition and practical knowledge necessary to become a reflexology therapist.

~INSPIRA~ The Personnel

Sue Evans BA(Hons), MAR, PGCE - Director & Principal Tutor
Paul Steward BSc - Director & Administrator
Ann Strange - HND, MAR, DIpN, RGN - Main Course Tutor

Sue and Ann are both MAR - these are the letters that you can use after your name when you have qualified and become members of the Association of Reflexologists. They both still run busy clinics so their knowledge is current. We are all Reiki Masters too.

Sue and Paul are the Directors of ~Inspira~ and they live at Inspira House which is where the course is held in a dedicated, fully equipped training room - including multi-media, cameras and projector (so that you may view your own feet!).

Some courses are held in hired rooms or in a formal educational setting and what sets us apart, is that we want our students to be relaxed and to "feel at home". Past students have said that this has been an important factor in creating a good, positive learning environment. It also means that if extra tuition time is required we can accomodate without having to leave when the rental time has expired!

Sue was involved with the setting up of the Reflexology module on the BSc(Hons) Complementary Tharapies degree at UWIC in Cardiff, where she lectured for four years before turning all her attention to ~Inspira~ and the writing of her book.

Ann was formerly a District Nurse for the NHS and after qualifying as Reflexologist/Therapist became amongst one of the first therapists to be succesfully employed by the NHS in Wales working at Velindre Hospital, Cardiff. Ann runs a thriving clinic as well as lecturing for ~Inspira~.

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?

A DEFINITION OF REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that is used in an ever increasing number of working situations and environments.

The roots of reflexology are ancient, although it is in the last century that it has once again found its place as a respected means of promoting health and well-
being.

Reflexology is both an art and a science. It is an art because a reflexologist must be adept, skilful and sensitive, and a science because it is based on physiological and neurological study and is an ever increasing subject of research.

The feet are a mirror image of the body itself - If you imagine looking at the feet together, then the head is represented by the big toes, the chest and lungs are the balls of the feet, the insteps are the main torso and the heels become the bottom of the body. You have to imagine someone sitting on the floor, with their arms and legs crossed - then look at the pair of feet - and the shape is the same!

Within the feet are reflexes for all the body's organs and systems and with a precise thumb and finger pressure these reflexes are accessed in order to promote and aid the body's own healing system. So, although the reflexologist will activate the healing process, it is the receiver of reflexology who will be in control of their own health and well-being, a really positive way in which to look after yourself!
